Letter to the teacher:
Dear Mr Tengdahl,
I believe that the approaching two weeks will be a great chance to initiate my research and to develop new ideas as there will be a longer time-frame to achieve my plans. So for today, I will briefly outline my research project and what my holiday goals are.
After two weeks of uncertainty on what my project topic will be, I have finally decided to select, ‘How do braces affect a teenager’s self-esteem?’ To do this project, I will be researching on two different topics-braces and self-esteem and then connect the two ideas together to answer my focus question.
My first goal involves going to our school resource centre before the school break commences because I want to look for books related to teeth, braces, psychology or self-esteem. In the holidays I plan on searching online to find relevant texts, and then go to the local library and/or possibly the state library as well. This is because I want to start reading; taking notes on the relevant information and analysing them. My second goal is to read a few basic encyclopaedias at home to find key information. My third goal is to begin my internet source research, where I will look for websites, take notes and save pages to print at school in the new term. So overall regarding the research, I will be looking at three different types of sources to help answer or begin answering a few of my guiding questions.
Besides researching, I will create a concept map on <http://www.mywebspiration.com> for all the resources I plan on using to answer my guiding questions. I will also complete a more comprehensive week-by-week schedule since I now know what my sub-guiding questions are. Next, I will send my proposal draft to you in the beginning of the school break to receive constructive criticism and later on fix it. During this time, I will also be completing tasks assigned by you and recording my process in my journal which includes what I do, my achievements, my goals, the positives, the negatives etc.
Well, that’s all for now and hopefully I am not being too ambitious with this plan. I hope through this letter you have a better understanding on where I am with my research project. Feel free to send some feedback as it would be greatly appreciated.

- Did not go to the State library because Stephanie and Hien did not go and I did not feel prepared enough to go look thoroughly at
- Did not go to the Charles Stuart library because I felt unprepared.
- Did not exactly go through plans with researching with online resources and went overbroad with a website summary instead.
